How often should I wash my locs?

Let’s talk about loc hygiene! More importantly, about your hair care routine when you have locs. When it comes to locs people often ask about upkeep routines but MOSTLY how to wash locs.

We can talk about upkeep ie moisturizing, nourishing and all that another time, today it's about the wash!

There are different schools of thought when it comes to washing your locs and yes, believe it or not, a lot of people who have locs or are considering them don’t know how often they should wash their locs.

Side note.... if ANYONE tells you that you should not wash your hair often... run!!! Also I wouldn't eat food from them either 😂...

ok I'm kidding about the food part....( not really)

The idea that your locs don’t have to be washed as often as unlocked hair is wild. Let's denounce that right now, WASH YOUR HAIR!!! It's super important that you keep your scalp and locs as clean as you can so that your locs can grow healthy and beautiful.

Cleaniness is next to godliness and we are all personifications of loc Gods and Goddesses so let's start with that!! Also, your hair will thank you and it will also improve your journey since clean hair locs faster and better than dirty hair. ( Dont argue with me )

"When should I wash locs Felisha"?

Well it all depends on what part of the journey you're on.. I mentioned the types of locs in an earlier post ( which I'm yet to finish, don't yell at me) but I'll try to summarize.

Baby locs/starter locs

So if you started or are planning on starting your journey with us, you would hear me talk about how to care of your babies.

I recommend waiting till your follow up appointment in 4-6 weeks to take your first major wash, but in between that first few weeks you can gently clean your scalp with a wash cloth if you feel like it's itchy or experience any buildup ( which you shouldn't if your putting that bonnet or cap on). Baby locs will look poofy and frizzy, that all part of the process.

Mature locs

If your locs are pretty much mature you can actually wash your hair every week. Of course most of us wear styles to keep that retwist fresh so that might be unrealistic. You definitely can use Seabreeze as a temp solution to keep your style or to keep your parts looking a little neater instead of a full wash. We include a thorough wash in all of our retwist services so even if you think you didn't do a good job, don't worry, we got you.

If you have any questions or I missed anything ( I did say it's a summary, not a tutorial) leave a comment or send us a message.
